The only paid pumpers I know are the ones who worked at gas stations in the
50's and 60's. Those were the days.
Yep, I'm a senior citizen.
Back in the early 1960's, every single dime, quarter, and half dollar in my
pocket was made out of solid silver. Sometimes it felt like I had 5 pounds
of metal in my pocket. Now all the money is made out of cheap worthless
paper.
Drive-in movies on Saturday nights were my favorites. Taking a date to the
drive-in... those were the happiest days of my life.
My brother, sister, and I used to go to Saturday matinee movies at the
Uptown theater in Milwaukee in the 1960's. The ticket price was $0.10 cents
and we brought our own popcorn in brown paper bags. Sometimes I bought a
large candy bar for $0.25 cents. Those were the days when they made candy
bars out of real chocolate, not chemicals. We watched Frankenstein, The Blob
, Wolfman, Dracula, the Creature, Invisible Man..
I had 13 uncles and aunts on my dad's side. They were so poor that my
grandparents used to rent my father and his brothers out to the local
farmers.
My dad never saw a nickel of the money. He jumped a train to California when
he was 16 years old. Then he enlisted in the merchant marines during WWII.
My mother lived in East Prussia during WWII. My mother, uncle, and aunt were
members of the Hitler youth. All the German school kids were Hitler youth.
Then the Russians invaded Prussia and my mom's family lost everything. They
ended up in a refugee camp for three years. 1,800 Germans in my mother's
village that didn't get out were executed by the Bolshevik Russians.......
Construction workers unearth WWII remains of what is believed to be 1,800
Germans......
