我也遇到这样的学生，上我的课拿了A要推荐信，我的一门课有200人，大多我根本没有
印象，学生60%都拿A，拿A有什么稀奇？我的原则是：只要没有给我做过research
assistant 的本科生，我就告诉学生，“I received your request for a letter of
recommendation and I am flattered that you would ask for a recommendation
from me. Letters of reference carry the most weight when they are from
someone who knows your work skills. Since we have not worked together, I can
hardly speak with authority about your professional abilities. I hope you
will understand if I decline.”

如果学生非要，我就很坦诚的告诉他，我能写的就是一小段话，说明你在我的课上拿了
A，这推荐信你如果想要，我就给你写。我还给一个学生说过，我只能完成推荐前面对
她能力的percentile的评价，而且很多项目我都会填“not sure", 推荐信我一个字都
不会写。她也同意了，结果她被另外一个学校的研究生院录取了，最后学生还感谢我的
推荐。所以推荐信到底有多重要不好说，也许没有任何重要性。但是我肯定不会瞎写。
